National Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count.
Teams of 2 or 3 people will be assigned to designated

levels participate and are welcome. Bring binoculars
and dress warmly.

packages with maps and data forms. Count teams will then head to their areas
and counting may continue until sunset (5:30 pm). If your team stayed out late
the night before celebrating the new year, you may choose
to start the count later in the morning. Also, counting until dusk in late afternoon is not required.
If you live in the count circle you
may choose to count birds at your
home feeder. Participants are required
to pay a $5 fee to help publish
the results.
The count will conclude with a compiling

pm, at the home of Dave Hicks and
Deb Hustin, 721 Wayne St., North

if you’d like. Each team leader
should bring filled-out forms and
participant fees to the dinner.
November Program
"GOING BATS"
- Tuesday, November 25th, 7:30 pm
- Hoff Room, Manchester
College Student Union,
North Manchester
- Join us for a fascinating “GOING BATS” program that will include basic bat
facts, an introduction to the bats of NE Indiana and an interesting discussion of
how injured or displaced bats are rehabilitated. There will also be a display of
mounted bats found in Indiana and a chance to meet live bats. GOING BATS is a bat rehabilitation residence operated by Bob and Ann Walton, who will present this
evening’s program. GOING BATS is located in rural Allen County, Indiana, north of Ft Wayne. The
facilities consist of a “bat room”, once the dining room in a 19th century brick farm-house, and a flight pen
in a bank barn which also houses a nursery colony of wild bats. Bats found by the public, whether injured
or simply in the wrong place, are treated and cared for until they may be safely released. Now in its sixth
year of operation, it has received 487 bats with an additional 64 born in captivity. To date 411 bats have
been returned to the wild. Bob and Ann have also been involved with raptor rehabilitation since 1992.
